MDHC 2nd vs Beacon 5th

Market Drayton second team were away to Beacon 5, looking for their first points of the season.

Things didn’t start well as they didn’t have a goalkeeper and two players got lost on the way. Two of the front line had one game experience between them and then after 15 minutes, with one player leaving the pitch through illness and another receiving a green card, the Buccaneers were down to 8 players, and Beacon must’ve thought they were in for a goal fest! But the most immense performance from the defensive quartet keeping the ball out and Beacon trying too hard against a midfield whose energy levels were off the scale and halftime was reached with the score of 0-0, and frustration crept into the Beacon side.

In the second half one of the Drayton players went in goal and we were up to 10 outfield players. Captain Adrian Venables rallied his Buccaneers, Mike Chevins was as solid as a rock at the back John Rayson Jake Jones and Harry Freeman and Harry Watts ruled the midfield and Ben Freeman and Rory Jones’s positional play unpicked the Beacon defence. John Rayson scored two goals and James Parsons one and Beacon had two consolation goals. The Buccaneers team spirit won the day.
